Boyne Middle Earth Ski and Snowboard Series, Boyne, Michigan

Not quite up for the Winter X-Games? Try the Boyne Middle Earth Ski and Snowboard Series this weekend, featuring competitions for snowboarders and skiers alike. On Friday, take in the insanely fun to watch boarder
cross and skiercross competitions. Then on Saturday, get ready as all skiers and riders will take on Boyne’s terrain park, and the halfpipe ski and snowboard event concludes the competition on Sunday. You must be a USASA member to participate ($25 per event to participate, free to watch; middleearthsnowseries.com). If you have anything left in you after this weekend of events, check out the slopes at Boyne Highlands. The resort features two mountains with plenty of options, such as downhill skiing, tubing, and snowboarding. Boyne also offers ice-skating and snowmobiling. If you don’t think you can hack any of it, simply hitch a ride from Boyne’s own dog sled team .

Accommodations and Travel: The Middle Earth Ski and Snowboard Series will be held at the Boyne Highlands Resort. Tour de Ski,
San Juan Mountains, Colorado

This weekend take part in either a 20k and 42k cross-country race set in part of the largest roadless area left in Colorado. Scared of heights? You might want to stay home, because the races challenge skiers with one of the highest race starts and finishes in the United States, and has a total elevation gain of nearly 3000 feet. Both races feature treks through valleys and loops. For the less daring, the Tour de Ski offers 6k and 12k races. Prizes will be awarded.Durango Mountain Resort is one of the beautiful places
